Donald Levine is a partner at the firm and a trusted counselor for individuals and businesses who need candid and clear guidance tailored to accomplish their specific objectives. With extensive experience across a broad spectrum of legal disciplines, Donald provides representation suited to almost all of the day-to-day issues and long-term concerns that business owners face, whether they are at the helm of a small, closely-held enterprise or run a Fortune 100 company.

He deftly and efficiently counsels clients on corporate formation and governance, real estate transactions and financing, business acquisitions, employment law, transportation law, and contract development and implementation. A skilled litigator as well as a certified mediator, Donald also represents clients in construction and general commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution forums.

Throughout his career, Donald has earned the trust, confidence, and respect of his many clients and fellow attorneys because of his continued professionalism and adherence to ethical standards. He regularly delivers seminars to bar associations, trade organizations, community groups, and client organizations on a wide range of subjects. Donald is also active in several community and philanthropic endeavors, including serving as president and a member of the Board of Trustees for a large Chicago synagogue and as a participating member on the Patient and Family Advisory Council at the University of Chicago Hospital.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Donald earned his law degree from DePaul University College of Law. When not serving his clients or community, Donald enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Experience

As an attorney engaged in private practice in Illinois for many years, Donald has

  • Represented individual and corporate clients at the federal and state level in litigation (both civil and administrative), arbitration and mediation proceedings;

  • He has handled a wide range of commercial transactions, including the sale and acquisition of businesses and real property, and in financial transactions on behalf of both borrowers and lenders and the structuring and negotiating of the relevant documents for these types of transactions. 

  • He has represented clients in sophisticated real estate transactions, including matters related to construction on behalf of buyers, sellers, architects, contractors and developers.

  • He represents Condominium Associations as their general counsel.

  • In addition, he represents clients in transportation (primarily trucking) and logistics matters involving regulatory licensing and resolution of related commercial disputes.

  • In his employment practice, Donald:

    • Has structured, negotiated and documented employment relationships for both employers and employees, including restrictive covenants and employee handbooks and manuals.

    • Implemented employment and human resource policies, procedures and programs, developed and implemented training seminars for employer clients on such topics as avoidance of harassment claims and guidelines for the investigation and resolution of discrimination and/or harassment claims; and

    • Defended numerous clients in federal and state courts and before federal, state and municipal administrative agencies in litigation matters brought against them alleging employment discrimination or harassment.

  • Donald represents design and medical professionals in connection with engagement and or business relationships and been involved in the acquisition and sale of their practices.

  • He provides counsel to members of the clergy, both individually and in group settings, on legal issues and their interaction with religious matters and on a pro bono basis, has acted as a neutral on a confidential basis in a number of disputes involving religious organizations and their respective staff members and/or congregants.

  • He provides guidance and counsel on a pro bono basis to certain charitable and religious organizations on a wide range of matters with which they deal each day.
